Wilson Family Genealogy
Index to Wilson Family Members by Generation
Description of, Search Aids for, the Generation Index
- In the Generation Index, all of the known Wilson family members in each generation, and their spouses, are grouped together. For example, all of Alexander Wilson and Jane Armour's children will be found under the Second Generation, while their great-grandchildren will be found under the Fourth Generation. To assist you:
- Generation 1 = Alexander and Jane (Armour) Wilson
- Generation 2 = Their Children
- Generation 3 = Grandchildren
- Generation 4 = Great-grandchildren
- Generation 5 = 2nd great-grandchildren
- Generation 6 = 3rd great-grandchildren
- Generation 7 = 4th great-grandchildren
- Generation 8 = 5th great-grandchildren
- Generation 9 = 6th great-grandchildren
- Generation 10 = 7th great-grandchildren
- Generation 11 = 8th great-grandchildren
- Generation 12 = 9th great-grandchildren
- Generation 13 = 10th great-grandchildren
- Because of large familes, with children frequently born over a span of as many as 20 years (or, in the case of, for example, William Armour Wilson, over a span of 39 years), a person's birthdate does not necessarily give an accurate idea of the generation of which that person is a member. Contemporaries may well be of different generations.
- The Generation Index is most helpful for comparing relationships across family lines, rather than finding specific individuals.
- However, if you do not know a particular person's name, but do know that she was a 4th great-granddaughter, by looking in the Generation Index, you can narrow your search.
