Military Service of Alexander Pawling
War of 1812
From Hudson and Mohawk Valleys, page 700:
Alexander Pawling was "a volunteer in the war of 1812, which cost him his life."
From Burhans Genealogy, page 323:
"He volunteered for service in the war of 1812, and was ordered out to guard against an expected attack from the British at Sag Harbor in 1814. The attack was not made, but the soldiers were obliged to stand on the ice in a bitter wind for many hours, and Alexander never recovered from the effects of the cold, dying soon afterward. His brother Levi, who was with him, was very ill, but recovered."
