About Lewis A Mead
From research conducted by William Frank Arlington:
On 1 Mar 1873, Lewis A. Mead bought 85 acres in the town of Somerset, part of Lot 10, sec. 2, twp 16, range 6, from James Mathews. In 1855, Lewis owned 294 acres, of which 222 acres were improved. The cash value of the farm was $12,150. His stock was worth $1,100. He had 68 cows, 2 working oxen, 5 cows, 1 for beef, 4 milking cows, 4 cows for butter (260 pounds of butter), 9 horses, 4 pigs under 6 months, 4 pigs over 6 months, 26 sheep (400 pounds of wool), 30 acres planted, 50 tons of hay, 6 bushels of oats, 50 acres of wheat (220 bushels of wheat), 10 acres of oats (200 bushels of oats), 2 acres of buckwheat (5 bushels of buckwheat), 10 acres of corn (150 bushels of corn), 1 acre of potatoes (100 bushels of potatoes), 100 acres of apples (10 bushels of apples). In 1869, he owned 289 acres in the town of Hartland.
