Death Announcements and Obituaries for John Nelson Cunningham

John Nelson Cunningham died on 1 Aug 1938 in USA, NE, Douglas, Omaha.

This Obituary is from the Carroll Daily Times, USA, NE, Carroll, Carroll, 2 Aug 1938.

"Funeral services will be held in the Presbyterian Church here Wednesday at 3 p.m. for John N. Cunningham, 58, former superintendent of the Carroll public schools, who died unexpectedly at his home in Omaha Monday evening of a heart attack. Dr. Henry C. Schneider of Boone, a former Carroll minister, will conduct the services and burial will be in the city cemetery here. Mr. Cunningham's sudden death was a shock not only to his family but to the Carroll friends who recall the thirteen years he spent as superintendent of the Carroll schools, during which time the groundwork was laid for the present large system and modern plant.

"Following his retirement from education work in 1934. Mr Cunningham remained in Carroll for about a year, after which he moved to Omaha where he associated himself with Blodskys as manager of the Drexel Hotel. Friends of the family said that the only indication of Mr Cunningham's illness prior to his seizure which took his life in less than a half an hour Monday night, was his complaint of being short of breath during the past few days.

"At the time of his death, his youngest [child] was visiting in the E.J. Riley home in Carroll and his [child-in-law], was visiting * * * here. Both returned to the family home, 424 Park Avenue, Omaha, at once.

"Besides his wife, Mr. Cunningham is survived by [his children]; [and his siblings]. There is also one [grandchild].

"The body is being brought to the Huffman Funeral Home here today where it will remain until the time of the services. It may be viewed at the funeral home after 7:40 p.m. today."
