"Cleon E. Avery, 83, of Three Rivers, Mich., died Friday, Nov. 20, 1998, at Heartland Nursing Home.
"Mr. Avery was an active farmer in South Haven for 30 years, then moved to Grand Rapids where he joined the ministry and served many churches in Michigan and the Laurel Mission in Kentucky, and retired in 1981.
"Born in Three Rivers, Mich., on Nov. 20, 1915, he was the son of Alfred Avery and Eunice Chamberlain Avery, both of whom preceded him in death.
"He married Marion L. Sanders in Kalamazoo, Mich., on April 30, 1938, and she later preceded him in death.
"He was also preceded in death by one infant son and two brothers.
"Survivors include [seven children and children-in-law]. Twelve grandchildren and 12 great-greandchildren also survive.
"Funeral services were Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Howardsville Gospel Church.
"The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Howardsville Christian School.
"Halverson Chapel in charge of funeral arrangements."
