"LOCKPORT - A memorial service for William Nelson, 81, a retired business owner and Town of Lockport building inspector and zoning officer, will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday in Plymouth Congregational Church, 98 East Ave.
"A native of Newfane and a former longtime Town of Lockport resident, he died June 29, 1996, in South Bay Hospital, Sun City, Fla., after a lengthy illness.
"After working for 20 years at Harrison Division, General Motors Corp., he owned the former Mortimer Co., a paint, wallpaper and picture-framing store on Main Street for 20 years.
"Before retirement in 1980, he was the town's building inspector and zoning officer for eight years.
"He was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church and Lockport Lodge 73 F&AM for formerly was a member of the Lockport Exchange Club and the Hartland Conservation Club.
"After retirement, he lived in Ruskin, Fla., and Alexandria Bay.
"Surviving are his wife of 57 years, the former Mary Morrill; [his children]; [a sibling]; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren."
