"Sidney Baker, 74

"CONWAY, S.C. — Sidney Baker, 74, of Conway, S.C., passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2013.

"There will be a second memorial service at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, at the Grand Island Seventh-day Adventist Church at 636 S. Shady Bend Road.

"Mr. Baker was born on Oct. 3, 1938, in North Platte to Seeley and Pauline (Gaunt) Baker.

"He served in the United States Air Force from 1957 to 1963.

"He married Carmen House on Sept. 3, 1958 in Sterling, Colo.

"Mr. Baker worked at the Lincoln Regional Center while attending the University of Nebraska during the early 1970s. During his career, he also worked for Hospital Contract Management Cos. in Colorado Springs, Colo.; Children's Hospital in Denver; Self Memorial in Greenwood, S.C.; and Spartanburg Regional Center in Spartanburg, S.C. He and Carmen moved to Grand Island in 1993, and he worked at the Grand Island Veterans Home until his retirement in 2004. During that same year, Sid lost his beloved Carmen after a long battle with T-cell lymphoma.

"Sid was remarried on March 26, 2006, to * * * Queypo. The couple lived in Hawaii for several years until [his wife's] retirement. They then moved to Conway, S.C., where they were living at the time of his death on July 21, 2013.

"Mr. Baker was an active member of the Myrtle Beach Seventh-day Adventist Church. He enjoyed singing, writing and telling stories.

"Survivors of the immediate family include his wife, * * *; three [children and two children-in-law]; [his siblings] * * *. Also surviving is [a grandchild].

"He was preceded in death by his parents, Seeley and Pauline Baker; one brother, James Baker; and his wife, Carmen."
