"Margaret Louise Ferrin, 85, of Gretna, Neb., and formerly of Marcus, died peacefully Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, at the Gretna Community Living Center in Gretna, Neb.

"She worked as a dental assistant with Dr. McCallister and also worked at Royer Jewelry for a brief time. While in the fourth grade Margaret met her future husband Clifford and it is even rumored that there was a playground kiss. On April 17, 1948 they were united in marriage and took up residence on the family farm in rural Marcus.

"In addition to working on the dairy farm and raising five children, Margaret was a very good seamstress. She made family clothing, quilts, and shared her talents with a couple of businesses in Cherokee and her church.

"Margaret and Clifford enjoyed old-time dancing, often traveling great distances to attend.

"She was very involved at Faith Lutheran Church in Marcus, singing in the choir, teaching Sunday school and holding offices on local and state women's organizations.

"She was also a 4-H leader for many years.

"She enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking and sharing her Swedish heritage with family and friends. No one canned pickles like Margaret Ferrin.

"Margaret taught her family about faith, honesty, hard work and sacrifice, always willing to help those in need be it family, friends or strangers.

"She will lovingly be remembered by her children, * * *; her grandchildren * * *; seven great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

"Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Byron and Alice; a brother Clinton Furgason; a sister Leona Engdahl, and her husband, Clifford Ferrin.

"Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cherokee. The Rev. Elizabeth Pfeifle will officiate. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Cherokee.
