Stories about George Oscar Davis
- From Tom Miner Basin - As I Knew It and The People Who Lived There, narrated by Eril Merrill, Courtesy of the B Bar Ranch
"The next place was the George Davis place owned by Mrs. Dailey [probably George's sister, Bertha I (Davis) Dailey, wife of Isaac Newton Dailey]. Ellery, my husband knew her, but I never saw her. B Bar Ranch now owns the land. Remnants of old buildings remain at the homestead and the stone building known as the Styer’s milk house was restored by the B Bar Ranch.
"I remember this story about George Davis. It was told to me by people who said they witnessed the event. George Davis was well known for his temper and one day during the hay season he had a bad day and flew into a rage. He roared, he cursed, he shook his fist at the sky and challenged God to come down and fight him. It was a blue sky day but a small white cloud appeared in the west and sailed across the sky until it was directly over the hay field. Out of that one small white cloud came one bolt of lightening, killing George Davis’ team of horses that was hitched to a buck rake, knocking George to the ground. I don’t know if George was chastised, but if he wasn’t; he should’ve been."
