"The Delavan Cemetery Association was formed on March 2, 1866 by a group of Delavan citizens who were concerned about the need for a new community cemetery. The organization took as it corporate name "The Delavan Cemetery Association" and recorded its Articles of Organization on March 5, 1866 at the Walworth County Register of Deeds. After its formation the Association purchased land at the end of the current 7th Street in the then Village of Delavan. The Association chose as the name for the grounds "Spring Grove Cemetery". Since the original purchase was platted the cemetery has expanded by four additions to the original plat and now comprises approximately 27 acres."
