Philonzo Chamberlain was born in USA, NY, Onondaga County. He was born on 26 May 1804, probably in USA, NY, Onondaga County. It has been reported that he "made his fortune" blasting bedrock for the Erie Canal at USA, NY, Niagara, Lockport. In 1830, he and his family were living in USA, NY, Niagara, Somerset. About 1836 or 1837, he moved his family to USA, MI, where he was a farmer. In the summer of 1837, Philonzo received title to land in USA, MI, Hillsdale County, from the United States. In the title certificate, he is listed as a resident of USA, MI, Lenawee County. In May 1863 he was taxed $2 by the US Internal Revenue Service for a two-horse carriage. He died in his 90's on 6 Dec 1894 in USA, MI, Lenawee, Woodstock, and was buried in Woodmere Cemetery (Sec G, Lot 58), USA, MI, Wayne, Detroit.
