Generation 7:
Nellie Gertrude (Arrasmith) Morey

Nellie Gertrude (Arrasmith) Morey-7 (Della Gertrude Morey-6, George Gilbert Morey-5, William Justus Morey-4, Amanda Pawling-3, Jane Wilson-2, Alexander Wilson and Jane Armour-1) was born on 30 May 1916 in USA, IA. After the death of her mother, she was adopted by her mother's brother, Irvin Ross Morey, and his wife, Leona Juanita (Scholl) Morey.

A Nellie Morey died on 27 Feb 1934, and was buried in Cedar Cemetery, USA, IA, Cherokee, Larrabee. Nellie Gertrude's parents and adopted parents are all buried in Cedar Cemetery. However, it is not clear whether the Nellie Morey buried in Cedar Cemetery is Nellie Gertrude because the obituary for her sister, Winnifred Fannie "Win" (Arrasmith) (Morey) Montgomery states that Win spent the winters in USA, CA, with two of her sisters, including Nell, up until 1996. Win's obituary also says that she was pre-deceased by her sister, Nellie Morey. The use of both Nell and Nellie in Win's obituary may indicate that two different women are involved. However, no other Nell has as yet been identified in the family of Win and Nellie's adoptive parents, Irvin Ross and Leona Juanita (Scholl) Morey. Irvin and Leona had a natural daughter who has not yet been found in any records after the 1940 census. It is possible that she used the nickname Nell. It is also possible, considering the fact that Irvin and Leona raised at least three children not their own - Winnifred Fannie Arrasmith, Nellie Gertrude Arrasmith, and a third girl - that they adopted or fostered another child after the 1940 census.
