About Stephen Seeley
- Land Records Relating to Stephen Seeley
- 1790 Census Town Records of Saratoga, Ballston, Stillwater and Halfmoon
From research into land records of USA, NY, Saratoga County, Research by Bill:
- On 23 Mar 1811, Stephen Seeley and Ruth his wife of town of Ballston purchased land in town of Charlton, being 1/13 allotment, general partition of Kayaderosseras Patent and bounded by a lot of Joseph Turney, southeast by Thomas Sweet man.
- On 8 Mar 1819, Stephen Seeley of Charlton, NY, conveyed land to Gershom Seeley, his son.
- On 24 Mar 1824, Stephen Seeley of Charlton conveyed to Alexander Wilson "Lot #2 of 13 Lot of XIII allotment of general partition bounded on the north by part of said lot," property of Michael Afford -- Eben Harger -- and Joseph Freeman. Stephen Wilson -- Stephen Seeley and Ruth Seeley agree to discharge the mortgage.
[Note from Wilson Association Historian: "Alexander Wilson" was Alexander Wilson Jr, and "Stephen Wilson" was Alexander Jr's eldest son, Stephen Melvin Wilson. Alexander Jr married Eunice Charlotte Seeley, a daughter of Stephen and Ruth (Odell) Seeley. Apparently after his Revolutionary War experience, Stephen Seeley joined the Quakers. Through association with Eunice, and probably her father, Alexander Jr became a Quaker preacher. Through a story told by Juliet M (Wilson) Hill, granddaughter of Alexander Jr and Eunice, we know that Alexander Jr was not paid for his ministry. Because of this, he might not have had the means to discharge the mortgage from his own resources. Undoubtedly, Stephen and Ruth were concerned about ensuring that their daughter Eunice had a secure home. Soon after this land transaction, on 6 Mar 1825, Stephen Melvin Wilson married Eleanor Pease Seeley, a daughter of Stephen Seeley's brother, John, and his wife, Eleanor Pease, and moved to USA, NY, Niagara County.
"Eben Harger" was probably Eber Harger. Eber married Mary Seeley, another daughter of Stephen and Ruth (Odell) Seeley. Although Eber and Mary moved their family to USA, MI, Oakland, Farmington, their youngest child, Stephen Edward Harger, was born in USA, NY, in Nov 1818. It is possible that the family was still in NY in 1824, or that, if they had already moved, the NY property had not yet been sold.]
- On 2 Apr 1825, Stephen Seeley of town of Charlton, County of Saratoga, sold a 1,200-acre lot to Abel Seeley and Gershom Seeley. Gershom Seeley was Stephen and Ruth Seeley's son; Abel Seeley was their son-in-law.
- Will of William Odell. The administration of William Odell's will was granted to Alexander Wilson (being one of the people called Quakers) and Elijah French. Stephen Seeley witnessed the will and appeared in court on 7 May 1808 to verify that he witnessed the will of William Odell on 9 Mar 1803.
[Note from Wilson Association Historian: Again, this would have been Alexander Wilson Jr.]
