Review of the 108th Annual Wilson Family Reunion, 10 July 2011
2011 Trivia Game
The 108th Annual Wilson Family Reunion was held on 10 July 2011. More than 50 family members attended, including first-time attendees who were descendants of Hezekiah Wilson, son of Stephen Melvin and Eleanor Pease (Seeley) Wilson.
Family members shared some of their "bucket list" items, which included visiting Hawai'i, where one family member was born; visiting Scotland, the ancestral home of Alexander Wilson and Jane Armour; and finding the house of Alexander Wilson Jr and Eunice Charlotte (Seeley) Wilson in Saratoga County, NY.
Several members brought family heirlooms for "show and tell." The heirlooms included a gentleman's walking stick given to Stephen Melvin Wilson by his nephew, Marvin Howard "MH" Chamberlain, on the occasion of Stephen and his wife Eleanor's 50th Wedding Anniversary in 1875; a quilt made by Ida Mae (Farnsworth) Kinzly, daughter of Mary Viola "Mate" (Wilson) Farnsworth, who started the Wilson Association and the Wilson Family Reunions; a starfish caught on 13 Jan 1922 by Benjamin Ernest and Mary Catherine (Smoyer) Wilson south of Redondo Beach, CA; and a picture of a tea chest that had belonged to Jane (Armour) Wilson and is now in the safe-keeping of descendants of Alexander and Jane's daughter, Jane (Wilson) Pawling.
The family recognized those family members who had passed since last year's reunion, and greeted new family members - both by marriage and by birth.
The family decided to reinstate the Entertainment and Games Committee for the next reunion. Expect to hear more during the upcoming year as we endeavor to make next year's reunion even better.
There was a special guest this year - a white dove joined us, walking along the pavilion roof during the business meeting, and then walking among the attendees and greeting family members.
Thanks to all those family members who invested time and effort in making the reunion another success.
