Letter Sent Home

Dear children.

We are both feeling just fine here have been on the go for three days Fri. P.M. Harry come & got us then went home & got his family & took us for a drive out thru Hollywood & up on a mountain to the Burnhimer castle. two rich old batchlors had a million dollars to spend so built a castle & made minature gardens with running water thru & real live gold fish in & real black swan & every hedge & walk was so pretty & kept it so nice must cost something to keep up a place like that then went back to Harry’s to supper (dinner they say) I had roast beef, lima beans, beets, 2 boiled eggs on lettuce leaves with cottage cheese on top & for desert - a dish of sweet cheeries oh yes & a half slice of white bread. Sat’s test was all right so Dr. said white bread did not hurt me that time. Sat. morn. we took P- & went out back track to Glendora our last camp before landing in Los A- had dinner there & tried to find a friend of P- but he was not at home then we went around by San Dimas inquire about Romig’s she is down in Neb. with the daughter visiting she lived in Los A- before going so no ways likely we will see her but we are getting itchy to find Josh we went in orange orchard on our way out a Mr. Cooper took us thru I picked my first oranges (2) he snaped camera for us he was very nice to us & gave us 8 oranges said we should help ourselves but we did not want to be hogs by ourselves. then we hustled back on way bo’t cull oranges they call them (they are small) for marmalade P- is crazy about it. good oranges are 60¢ dozen. great orchards of English walnuts 40¢ lb. sometimes along the road you can get them for 25¢ they are not bleached they look dark but were good inside we got some to try them Sun. morn. we went & got Hollis & wife & went out to San Fernando & visited Will Selip. Pa went in the garage & inquired where some man lived Will told him then asked him if he lived in the East pa said he used to & Will said Ben Wilson so he did not get fooled very bad he has a 5 acre ranch raises garden truck well we went in & had dinner with them. his wife’s mother lives with them & they all seam happy & very nice they were to us & insisted we visit them again before leaving Cal. Hollis & wife have bo’t a lot with a new house being built they changed the rooms a little & having them & they want them it will be ready for them Xmas they are very anxious to get in it & be paying $40.00 a month on a home instead of paying that much rent which they do for only two dark rooms. I admire their grit they say they will never go back to N.Y. to live they like it so much better here. Hollis wants to sell his Fordson whether it is at Carrigan’s or whether young Carrigan has the selling of it I don’t know which she said she guessed they would have to advertize it in the “Star” i (they take it) we were over to Bakers Wed. even. & she said she would just love to see the “Star” I had burned all but two & two Union Sun’s so pa took them over to her. they seam very happy & she is so stout gained 40 lb. she sure looks fine & more like Lizzie. P- said last night well you are finding more of your friends out here than we have in all the time we have been here a little jealous I guess we think some of going to Len’s this P.M. (maby not) it rained a very little last night. John N- that’s the limit how does it go now guess he better not try to hurry C- to much well its to bad for them both Pa forgot you wrote Pettit gave you check. well guess I will ring off. hope you are all well. its near lunch time.
