Dear Florence & all
I wish you could see your mother now sitting in her Ford bed with her cloths & coat on & I need them too as it is real crisp each camp here in Riverside camp ground has an electric bulb but it is at top of shed & to high to write by so pa lit his hanging candle in the “Ford” & I can see very well this camp has a shed for each car & room enough for a tent by the side each shed has 2 gas burners but has nothing on Balboa Park. San Diego we were there 4 nights left that city yes. noon last night we were in “Live Oak Park” near Fallbrook got to Riverside about 1 P.M. we wnet thru the Mission Inn I was very much disappointed in it. I expected something great for ever since we landed in Cal. the girls & Phebe talked of going to Riverside. well I say right here I am about filled up with Missions & Museums. coming over today we come by the way of “Murrieta hot springs” the water was to hot to drink. all the folks around there looked sicky most of them there taking hot mineral baths it is quite a resort. Your dad is over visiting men from Ariz. don’t know how we will sleep tonight the trolley & trains both go by these grounds. both feeling fine tonight dad’s come to go to bed good night.
Apr. 1st Sat.
good morning is right the first bright morn. in about two weeks hope you all feel as good as we do this morn. the cars & trolleys did not bother once when a switch engine or something that went like _____ pa give a jump & said he was in a flying machine & something went wrong. well we are filled with gas & oil & headed for Redlands 15 miles expect to sleep in Los A. tonight want the mail pretty bad it is amusing in camps to hear the opinions of different people of Cal. I have not heard the first tourist say any thing very good for it. one man from O- this morn. saidit was his first trip & he was perfectly satisfied with O- now pa is waiting. he just read part of this letter & informed me I did not say we were filled up on hot mineral water well such was the fact. coming in Riverside teh orange orchards looked like our peach orch. a year ago they were near packing house & dumped frozen O- in the orchards 1/2 the crop gone here but around Pomona they are all gone & some orch. too
Best wishes & love to all. Dad & Mam
