lovely morn. finished hat cut pa’s hair & packed to travel. went down to shore wrote letter to F ate dinner there then went to Venice. did not see Len & May but saw children camped behind sign boards again took bath
Letter Sent Home
Dear Children
We left Steves Tues. P.M. went down town first for Venice night overtook us & we camped four miles before we got there behind some big sighn boards on a cross road corner in a nice grove where the road men left their “Fordson” both rested fairly well. (auto’s run all night) next morn. had break. there then rolled in Venice just rode around town then went down the Ocean shore. then drove up “Topanga Canyon” to the summit there about 200 ft. of the road had slid down the canyon so we have seen a land-slide. it slid on Thurs. P.M. & we were there the next Wed. of all our mountain drives that one takes the lead oh so pretty with wild flowers & rocks Cal. sure has flowers we have not had rain only one day since coming from Valley C-. when we got out that Canyon, we drove along the shore then went in an other Santa Monica Canyon when near S-M- we saw a nice quiet camp for 25¢ so made our bed oh how well we both slept. we were in sight of the Ocean could hear the waves & see white caps the breeze was fine but rather cool. we had tire trouble the day before so pa went after tires (after visiting & taking pict &c &c) & I went to making my new Easter hat. I got some braid (10 yd. 2.00) when in Los A- tues. P.M. I braided the whole thing wanted black but had to take blue (again) the flowers were limpsy but I brushed them & put glue on the back so had to let them dry till this morn. so I have a new “Easter bonnet” its bright & new looking even if it is the same shape (who cares) I was glad to get to do it before getting back to Los A. & there is going to be a N.Y. picnic in Sycamore park Sat. we want to go, this morn. pa went to pay for our camp the man said no we are glad to have you with us (just two camps ours & theirs) & they gave us 6 or 8 pict. they took yes. morn. & invited us back any time we come this way. they have camped there all winter & had charge of the grounds. all over we meet nice people. we are now sitting on the sand watching the waves (between times) pa reading. we will call on Len’s this P.M. then go back for the picnic we asked P- to go with us. I have been eating whole wheat bread entirely for nearly two weeks if no sugar next test good by gluten. pa is going to learn to test then can keep tab on me along road. we are both just fine. my arms are better was bad fore part of week. after I finished my hat this morn. I cut pa’s hair some job with my scisors looks better any way. hope you are all fine expect a letter is waiting in Los A. its getting toward eating time will see Hollis & G soon. maby Sun.
