Wed May 3 -- fine morn. (made Lizzie track) Left camp 8:45. down down mts. 10 mi coast saw unloaded truck run in bank quite a sight down & soon struck Sanwakee valley i road as straight as a string for 28 mi sand the first part valley then alfalfa & oat hay, wheat & cattle. turned off 2 mi to Bakersfield. hot in City 90 in shade (Artesian wells & grapes) put on new tire then went on to Tulare camped in reg. camp (25¢) cooler
Letter Sent Home
Dear ones all.
Just gassed & oiled next dinner. we left Steves 1st 8:30 A.M. went to Nettie’s 3 P.M. left for San Fernando Valley stayed all night with Will Selip’s oh the mountains on mts. such a sight 18 miles below the summit we camped in a small town (Lebec) this morn. we coasted 10 mi. then struck in a valley & drove 28 mi. as straight as a string little down grade all the way we turned of 2 mi from this town but the (good) road went on realy would like to know how far it did go. we just sent some post c- I forgot to mark them. will say don’t say anything to Carrie S- about H & G. pict- I tho’t G did not care for her to have one by the way she spoke (so mum am the word) we are feeling good Dr H told pa with caution (diet) he tho’t me cured. said I was one in a thousand to keep diet. Steve was as very busy Sun. he did not have time to be in pict. so Mon. morn. pa took S & P with the two little girls hope it is good its in Cam. yet. after we had taken pict. Bill & J come but Harry & Beulah had gone they all acted as if they hated to see us go. Oh but this is a hot town has been for two weeks
pa is hunting whole wheat bread & green onions for dinner. nearly all summer dresses on the St. Oh the new attatchment for the Camera is an alarm clock you wind it & at such a point it snaps the Cam. & you can take your own pict. so did will be in the pict. here after & not always put me up for a target. the one among the vines (No 1) the one on bridge (No 2) & so on you will see. say I feel foolish today guess it is because I’m hungry. if I only had a ham of that “old hog” (some hog) oh I just discovered what’s the ailing of me I’ve both stockings on wrong side out. maby you will be getting some letters back now all depends how long they hold them at P.O. 1500 mi. from Los A. to Tocoma Wash. that will be our add. by the time you get this. I don’t mean we’ll be there but may by the time your letter waits 10 days or more. Will S- seamed pleased to have us see them before leaving Pa’s here. Hope you are all feeling as good as we are. how are the turkeys? Love to you all
San Wakee valley we are in some Valley & hot oh gets as high as 114 hope we get out before it reaches that point.
we have had our dinner & are getting a new tire on we cut one yes. & are afraid it will play out when we can’t get new one “safety first.” we feel asif we have started for home since leaving Los A. its a long way across the map
Roses. Roses. I wish you could see them. flowers all along the road sides & fields & fields of them they are so pretty
Oh Florence I have lost the address of that Shaw boy. I tho’t I wrote it in my book. but nit send it again please Pa just said we would be in San Francisco yet in two weeks so answer right away & don’t send to Tocoma till after two weeks you must guess at it.
90 in this garage sweat running everywhere off goes my long pants knee pants here after. & in Yosemite they say it is so cold. so I expect we will freeze up now we are ready to go on so long
