Letter Sent Home

New add. Gardiner Mont. Gen. Del. after 30 days return to writer

Dear Ones at home,

We got here last night we went by a pointer that pointed to a “free” “tourists camp” in a Park well we sailed in town tho’t to get mail but Gen. Del. closed at 5 so got left. well no camp in town so we inquired for Asotin St. drove quite a ways out & found cousin Hatt she lives with her oldest son & wife Mabel. today pa went to P.O. got 1 letter but very thankful for that. today is Mabel’s 27th Birthday & they are giving her a birthday dinner with her help at the Park the very Park the camp is in no it was not but we have not use for the camp we are camped in David’s backyard “just fine.” tomorrow we are all to take a boat ride & fish clams (pa can’t hardly wait). expect we will leave Mon or so don’t send letter till we send new add. we will go to Seattle, so will get mail (or ask). Bill & J. were at 2926 West Ave. 38 Los A. Cal. Bill has work for a while in a Goodyear rubber plant. the last we knew or heard from them.

4 P.M. the same day

we have just got back from the birthday dinner at Lincoln Park 14 there Mabel’s own people Mother, Gmother, sisters &c such a good dinner & all so friendly we sure had a good time. glad to know Sadie is back in neighborhood glad you like your hired man. sorry Bertha’s health has failed her. talk nice to her that folks don’t get up & do never get any thing ahead. poor girl has a poor example. the pigs are fine (some pigs). Sau Wilfred don’t let your puppy chew Rex up what is his name you have never told us. Oh I have seen ferns acres & acres of them (whats the miss) have seen quite enough og that kind but there is one little Fern I’d like to see. say children wahen we were at Baird Cal. there was an indian & squaw come along the road the sun was awfull hot & the indian held the parasol over him & the squaw walked in the hot sun I said to g.pa see that man under parasol I like his style. when they got to store he put it down took off his hat & slipped a couple straps off his head & the woman took the pappoos tha was on his back the cutest little fat chub I ever say g.pa was at store & talked to it & it laughed him right in the face not a bit polite. it pleased the man & woman to see g.pa notice it. in Ashland Ore. one party had two Angora cats one maltees & one yellow tiger the yellow one had big feet both with colars & chains on. there was a big dog come along & the yellow one broke loose. the lady tho’t sure she lost her pet she hunted around at last he dropped down out of a tree it was clipped like a tiger with a tassel on tail another family had just a common tiger (dark) kitten just the cute size & the most playful little thing it would not go away from tent but played all the time & we see dogs by the score. big dogs 7 little dogs long tail dogs & short tail dogs the only place there were no dogs was in Yosemite they would not allow them or cats in park the birds were so tame tere they would eat crumbs right at your feet I did not intend to write so much or would have taken an other sheet but guess you can make it out [Much of the last was written upside down between the lines.]

now guess I will get this mailed. your letter dated June 3 landed in Tacoma June 7 we got it June 10 so it did not stay in P.O. long. hope you are all as well as we.

Love to all. Ma & Pa

6 P.M.

We intend to leave Mon or Tues. Dave says we better wait 2 weeks & go together he & his wife are going east to his old home Canada “Manoras” he has 3 months off or take it but guess not if we were not going back to Mo. we might wait. we would only go together to Yellowstone then have to go in different ways so wont wait as much as we would like to they would be fine to travel with. pa says answer the prompt or we will get there before your answer will then. don’t write again untill we send address have I made it plain (yes) it has been cloudy for two days. guess its about same climate here now as home gardens just coming on onions about ready roses opening nicely but they seldom have snow it rains 8 mo in the year so they say. well they are all gabbling so will gabble too. a Mr & Mrs Short are staying here untill their new house is ready they have a 10 mo. boy. Cousin Hatt’s youngest boy Joe & wife & girl comes to Tacoma tonight. her mother lives here too. Cousin Hatt is going home with them tomorrow night so all comes just right
