At least one reference was found indicating that Alexander Wilson Jr was related to De Witt Clinton, Governor of the State of New York from 1 Jul 1817 to 31 Dec 1822, and from 1 Jan 1825 to 11 Feb 1828. One reference also indicated that Alexander Wilson Jr was a passenger on the first boat to sail the Erie Canal, whose construction was pushed by Gov De Witt Clinton.
This relationship is by marriage through the Pawling family.
John (Jan) Pawling, son of Henry (Hendrick Paeldin) Pawling and Neelje Roosa, married Aagje De Witt, daughter of Tjerck Claessen De Witt and Barbara Andriessen Van Amsterdam. Aagje was the sister of Andries De Witt, whose granddaughter, Mary De Witt, married James Denniston Clinton. James Denniston Clinton and Mary De Witt were the parents of De Witt Clinton.
