Mary's Journal Entry
slept good tinkered our car & left camp before breakfast drove 18 miles drove in a side road had roasted corn for breakfast ran out of gas just thru Riverside B [Ben] went back and got some while in camp this morn crossing a school yard opposite camp my calf was stung by an Ill bumblebee after getting gas we rambled on a little ways & found Bill waiting by the roadside for us on to Springfield got gas State fair here all counties in Ill. here streets very prettily decorated thru Jacksonville had car trouble held us 2 hrs on thru Barry in free camping ground 10 cars camped had a terrible time finding the camp but it was worth the while had a sponge bath & went to bed roads awful dusty, sand drove 135 miles.

Just outside of little town & out of gass Bill & J have gone on around the hills & B- [Ben] has gone back for gal of gass. B [Ben] gone about 10 min no telling where the others are nearly to Springfield I expect we are just fine. great country corn, corn, corn. no end well all set. don’t know where we mail this are at Springfield.
