Dear ones all.
got back here last even. all well but little Helen her little tummy is up set again I don’t know as children that are fed by rule are any healthier than those that are not something the miss with her most of the time she is a skinny one her face looks plump. tell you more when I see you (what the rule is) but one thing Harry tols this morn. how he broke Maynard (his boy) from wetting the bed. when that happened his stripped his nighty off & soused him in the bath tub of cold water then put on a dry nighty & put him back in bed (did it for punishment) maby good for some kids. Harry said about three doses cured him. Ben said “I should think it would.” Dr said this morn. “absolutely free” when at Venice Sat. I weighed on same scale I did when there before & weighed just same 147 with my coat on (same coat) don’t know what todays test will be I ate white bread for 2 meals yes. say its the “Woman’s home Companion” Holiday No. that had Wilfred’s picture on I told you wrong. I was going to send you one but pa said you could get one there cheaper than I could send one. I send the cover off of Eunice’s. I got Nellie Bush’s & Mrs. Weaver’s cards O.K. Also one from Mary Bradley, Agnes C. & Ida Hotchkin. (quite a surprise). I got your letter telling of neighbors bringing your chickens home (quite a joke) hope the thieves get the full law. the wonderful “Don.” Huh! Rah! for Bigalow & his men. Dear children
The letter arrived O.K. with check & bank statement. the carrier left yours & took mine to you so they passed here at the door. supper is a thing of the past for today & dishes done. as soon as Eunice got home tonight to care for Helen Phebe went to bed. she is all filled up with gas she says (what would anyone be filled with if their bowels had not moved in three days) (easy is it not) & to my notion thats what upset Helen. Phebe told Eunice Thurs. even. she better give her a bowel wash instead of doing it she put her to bed & went to a basket ball game Fri. before noon she was sick & today she is real sick vomited all night. Harry here this morn. said give her soda water to drink & broth to eat (no milk) said it was “intestinal flu” said there was a lot of it around. she is asleep now both of them. Yes. morn. at Len’s I ate rolled oats for break. for dinner at Redondo I ate 2 buns supper 1 biscuit a little rice & some crackers in tomato soup & a few English walnuts in between. outside of diet list. today test was O.K. Dr told pa outside he saw no reason I could not be cured. I eat turnips, beets Lima beans carrots squash (& just fine) it is encouraging anyway. pa is out printing post cards so will send a few. Len’s wife & the two children in their car & Ben & I in our car went to Redondo beach hunting “moon stones” found some & pa got good & wet he had off his shoes & stockings. I did not take mine off the water only went over my ankles three times then I had moon stones enough. oh its lots of fun to watch the people get wet. Grandpa says if you have not sent the walnuts with the papers, plant them but I say not in the tulip bed. well it is going on a week since it has rained (unusual for Calif we think) it is not quite so cold tonight. well nothing doing in real estate. Ellis is out of a job. Leon says nothing doing in the garage business. Phebe & I were over to Juanitas over a week ago. Pa asked her what Bill was doing & she said she did not know (a funny look on her face tho’) she did not want to tell, have not seen anything of them since we were over there. I am getting kinder cappy so will soon go to bed. good night
Tues. Jan 10 9.15 A.M. Well I have changed my mind about sending post cards. I am going to put them in a box with cards that has been sent to us & send them P.P. it makes more for us to carry around & I don’t want to destroy them. will try to get them started this week will drop you a line when I do. our little girl is better this morn. Phebe is too but Steve is in bed yet. Pa got some clams for supper last night & S- ate two helping then finished with corn bread & cookies with milk on. Phebe says he said the clams soured his stomach. I wont kick any more but will have lots to talk about when I see you (believe me) the weather is fine sunshine this morn. but cold. Well Dr wont be ready to fix his drive before Fri. or Sat.
so long with best wishes. Mother
Chet’s wedding day. Does Pete go with Duxsbury girl yet. Ellis has gone out looking for work. he wont work less than $9.00 a day says a man is a fool to work for 5.00 (lots of fools)
