Letter Sent Home
Dear Folks,
Well here we are yes we’re here but not in Medford about 45 mi. from there under a nice big “Fir” tree (like the evergreens in our yard) just had eats pa looking over car little. I commenced your letter this morn. after writing Cousin Hatt at Tacoma saying we would be there in 2 wks. if all went well. Pa was in the “Ford” Garage where Wilbur bo’t their car inquiring about the gold mine he (Mr. Gates) says they are still after it he said some says it’s a good thing & some says its not worth a dam so there you are. W wrote us to inquire.
We camped last ni’t at Ashland Litha Park (50¢) but we got out moneys worth. We done 2 wks. wash, had shower bath, wood & stove for cooking. had “Lizzie” on river bank (quit right here till later)
8 P.M. Oakland, Ore. We are in a free camp tonight we had only 12 cts in our pocket ate our supper 6.30 & drove awhile the first we ever done that but I don’t like supper so late. Now back to my sudden stop pa come to the car & stuck a hand full of wild strawberries under my nose so we went & picked enough for our supper they were small but very nice. I can hardly keep my mind on writing there are so many coming in camp. good roads in Ore. had to detour twice they were rough but, we drove slow today over mountains then thru fertile valleys of alfalfa & cattle the last 30 mi. fruit, prunes, pears, apples, few peaches. I guess pa is taking in the town he’s gone any way. oh the wild rose bushes along the rivers & road side in the slashings just a few in bloom but loaded with buds they sure will be a sight. we come thru one town “Roseburg” of all the roses the town was rightly named. flowers do bloom outside of Cal. we are fine. hope the kids soon quiet down. I am ready to go to bed we want to get going in good season in the morn. I expect Aunt Stell will be going East or on her way you tell her not to eat the children all up we expect to get home some times & would like enough left to look at. I must write Hattie.
Tues morn. 7 A.M. Well we have come 25 miles the nerve of some people some nut snapped the lights out so I quit at Hattie. I don’t get much time when traveling just now pa had gone in the brush to see what the second growth of timber will be (liar) & bro’t out two kinds of moss from Ore. it is sprinkling a little just now. this is a great place to raise sheep & goats see flocks of goats i dare say 2000 in a flock. feeling as good as ever this morn. hope you all well. will write when I get chance.
Love to all Ma & Pa
5.45 We left camp this morn. one car went out a head of us. at that sun shine now by by.
I get along well without my teeth suppose you have them by this time. tell Ede she need not lend me hers. time to go on Cottage Grove the next town. guess I’ll look the timber.
