wind blew gale last night. cold rainy morn. packed up & traveled after getting gas no rain any more. stopped in Wheatlands camp, got our dinner then it sprung (?) a little more, I would say a land of alfalfa, corn & sug. beets (irrigate) on thru Cheyenne & out of Wyo. roosted in an open field across from a little store & garage 20 mi in Colo. cold day. gravel roads best yet 155 mi


Letter Sent Home


Dear ones all

I was going to write last night but it got dark on me. we left Cody, Mon 2.30 P.M. waited for mail went as far as Basin 56 mi. Oh but that was a hot P.M. & dust. them. was 88 in shade in Cody. Tues. not so hot cloud over sun helped out but dusty stopped in Thermopolis for dinner then went to hot springs had drink then got “Liz” gas & pa could hardly hold her we camped at “Lost Cabin” 120 mi that day that night as going to bed it acted as if we would have a ripper of a storm the wind blew a gale it thundered & lightened & we had about 17 drops of rain we slept just fine only for the puppies crying it sounded just like dogs in morn. we went to a building across road & there were 5 cayottes about as big as Billy cat we packed up & rolled on up & down up & down sand hills, stopped at “Hells half acre” but was nearer 50 acres it was sure a Hell of a hole of rocks all on end maby will have a pict. to show you pa tried his luck. we came thru Casper & camped in Douglas. 134 mi. that was last night in the night oh how the wind blew & it rained some & this morn. some more but we moved on & had our dinner in Wheatlands Camp. there is rained again but we did not stop we tho’t we could make Cheyenne, Wyo. but we got there 6 o’clock & did not want to stop so early so drove on till little after sundown here we are in a large field across the road from a little store & Garage within 5 mi of Dover. in Colorado about 20 mi. today we drove 166 mi. Now Mary an example for you how much nearer home are we than Mon. noon when we left Cody. the roads were just fine gravel roads I have had a terrible time writing this letter I don’t get much time when all goes so nice. dark must stop again. Fri. morn. this is a beautiful morn. the first bright one in three days but it was cold yes. morn. after the sprinkle but not bad riding. we are going by way of Greeley, Colo. & if all goes well as yes. will be at or near Colo. Springs by night. this would be a productive country could they get the water on the land. stock & stock good pasture on these hills. don’t know if there is P.O. at Dover or not. well here we are in Greeley, Colo come 38 mi this morn. now Russell you add 38 to Mary’s ans. we are that much nearer. this is the prettiest city we’ve seen in many a day shade trees everywhere a fine farming section sug beets alfalfa corn cabbage &c &c. pa is shelling peas, a truck left a bunch on a post & I got them by looks of pea straw at can. fact. they raise peas too don’t know where to have you add. us so will wait till we know. we may go to Enid have not decided & we may not go to Garnett & Kan. City so there we are. feeling good hope you are all the same. Ma & Pa

Pa says yes we will go to Enid Okla. Gen, Del. after 20 days return
