Notes
Mary is undoubtedly referring to the peach orchards on Lake Road in Wilson, Niagara, NY. Fruit cultivation, including peaches, has always been, and still is, a major part of the agricultural economy along the southern shore of Lake Ontario, where a "lake effect" keeps the temperatures much warmer than would be expected this far north.
Much of the land along what is now Lake Road, including the extensive peach and apple orchards now owned by the Singer family, was once owned by Stephen Melvin Wilson, Ben's uncle, and the first descendant of Alexander Wilson and Jane Armour to move to Niagara County, NY, USA.
