Mary's Journal Entry
Left Harolds 11 a.m. called to Ben Hills & Julietts. Harold, Geo B, Jack went to Carthage with us Bills & us took dinner with Griggs people left Carthage 5 p.m. headed for Pittsburg, Kan. drove 48 mi fine roads slept in Kan.
Letter Sent Home
Dear ones at home.
One week last night we arrived here & we are packing up to go on this morning we are invited to take dinner in Carthage George’s have a 10 lb. boy came Sunday I have not been there yet call on our way I have not had much chance to rest it has been go every day. we sure had a good time Sat. Walters, Harolds, Hills (Bennie) Juliet & Jack, Seeley’s (6 of them) & us all went over to Wills (35) took our dinners & ate in the grove by a creek after dinner the boys (big boys) sained the creek & got a small wash tub of fish then the women cleaned them & fried them & we had a feed of bread & fish & onions what fun we had well I would be perfectly satisfied to stay here but that Ben just thinks we must go on he just wont talk any other way so if I am sent home “Parcel Post” I can’t help it. by the way I am sending some seeds home (don’t expect to get home in time to plant them) the musk melons I never ate better the first water melon seeds in the bag are yellow meet maby they are not dry enough yet I am not crazy over them but Jack was & saved seed for me. the bottom seeds are red & were just fine got them at Henry Painter’s (Juanita uncle). we had a hard rain here (or at Hector’s rather) yes. twice what they had here. our next stop will be at Juanita people I expect take a week any to get there have not been able to get Gluten flour any where yet. eat bran biscuits. guess pa has changed his mind about getting it anywhere. Now I must cut off short & finish closing suitcases. Mable has just finished frying chicken for us. will send address soon. will no doubt be in Arizona a week anyway. then we get settled in California I will send add. suppose Mary & Russell went to school today. how are you all little Fern & Wilfred will be watching for the children to come from school. so long for this time
