Dears Ones at home.
Well we arrived at last about 6:30 last night just 3 weeks since we left Carthage. Mo, after a ride of about 80 miles 58 miles of it over & thru mountains but the road was very good the most of the way rocky some places. Oh but it is hot here Sun. 25 was the hotest day they have had this summer 110 & they predict a hot Oct. it is cloudy this morn. but such a mugy hot hope a breeze starts soon. yes. we rolled over Mts. then come to a large level space looked like all red sand with a few bushes here & there then come to an irrigating canal. oh how nice every thing looked. cotton fields. corn lovely large palms. cottonwood trees great big fellows like those in front of Zastrow’s i & we realy saw pink Olianders as large as that early sweet cherry tree across the lane & just loaded with blossoms oh they were pretty some nice white one but the pink were the largest. oh I wish you could have seen them & all the sights we have seen. what things are in this world of ours. well children ii you would not have known your Grand-Mother. going down the Canyon with breeches on & on a mule. a big wide hat to keep the hot sun off well if grandpa has good luck I will send you a picture. iii we have seen the cutest burrow colts, such wooly faces you could hardly see their eyes. we were so glad to get word from you. Mable Campbell forwarded two letters there was 7 letters from you & one from Ellen waiting our arrival & the papers thank you. it seams good to read our home papers
So sorry to hear of Hank’s death v we just can’t realize it is true of all the good times we have had togather. we know all was done for him that could have been. I will write to Mary this P.M. and Cousin Jennie vii is gone too glad she did not have to suffer like Maggie McNight. I was afraid she would. I have a lot of post cards to get home will send a couple in this letter pa don’t want me to send them open mail for fear of spoiling them. say before I forget it, have you opened the valve between the cisterns pa closed it early & forgot to tell you. our grain did very well as well as peaches & prunes how are the Damson’s & grapes Apples &c have you had frost yet. wish I had a bu. of Cukes about a foot long & slim or some of your Dill pickles would taste good. they say all kinds of vegetables are plentiful in Cal. but Cukes will sell well for a while.
do not know how long we will be here maby I will get an answer to this before leaving send our mail here they will forward them we got Bond check O.K. it takes cash have had to buy 2 new wheels on front & one hind they did not let us down in the mts. yes. when only 1 mi. from Phoenix pa heard the wheel rattle when we went on the pavement he looked back & it was wobbling so turned back a short ways to “Ford service” they had to go to Phoenix took 30 min. it took a little more than 30 before we were rolling. Tempe is the add. leave the l out. did my cards to you rub off so you could not read them. very sorry Raymond x is off of route.
