promises to be a very hot day. bad night hot & mosquitoes left camp before break (5:15) drove 12 miles to “Fords well,” i a windmill that pumped water for public & stock we camped there for break boys looked over cars & we left about 8 o’clock went about a mile & stopped & tinkered with car (would not pull) took water at well to go thru the real desert 72 miles to Mecca, Cal. first town. got gas on thru desert & greese wood not so bad no sand blowing & not so hot riding camped at Palm Springs 125 miles the most level traveling yet & pretty good roads thru canyon & around foothills ate lunch at “Shavers well” ii fine spring water
