Mary's Journal Entry
Bill shot a rabbit by road side. Left camp 6:00 fine morning on our way to Fulton stopped by road side got breakfast men fried rabbit for their breakfast. B [Ben] left his little ax the last time he used it was to cut off the rabbit’s tail thru Fulton & around their coal mines. by coal mines passed a Darkey & ? with load of melons got musk melons went along some distance & stopped on side hill by railroad track Bill left his knife a lucky day but thankful no worse around the hills & rocky roads forded thru streams & on toward Jefferson City stocked up our provisions & watermelon 2 at 1¢ a lb 28.35 lb. I got bran & ready made biscuits all autos back to the curb crossed Mo. River before getting to Jefferson City gased and oil left City 1:30 o’clock road out a ways & ate lunch by a woods then on toward the ferry at Bagnell, Mo. camped in Walnut grove cement school house ate supper & had sponge bath & went to bed slept fine after the big owl sang for us 92 miles

Dear folks this is the bridge we crossed today we are still in the City got gass & oil & Bill is getting directions the more we get the less we know. All fine. going south in the Ozark mountains don’t know when we get out. So long
